Does it hurt?

No. The light is bright but the mask is warm at most. Most people find the ten minutes relaxing rather than anything else.

Is this UV? Will it tan or burn me?

No. The red, yellow, green and blue light this mask uses all sit in the visible range, at the opposite end of the spectrum from UV. There is no tanning and no burning.

How often should I use it?

Three to five nights a week, ten minutes each time. There is nothing to gain from more than one session a day. Consistency matters far more than intensity here.

When will I see something?

Honestly, probably not in the first fortnight. Weeks 8 to 12 is where people most often report noticing a difference. Take a photo in the same light during week one so you have something real to compare against rather than relying on memory.

Do I use it before or after my skincare?

Before. Clean, dry, bare skin, because serums and creams can sit between the light and you. Everything else goes on afterwards.

Can I use it with retinol?

Yes, but apply the retinol after your session rather than before.

Do I need to close my eyes?

Yes. Keep them closed for the whole session and do not look directly into the LEDs.

Is there anyone who should not use it?

Do not use it while taking photosensitizing medication. Some antibiotics, isotretinoin and St John's wort all raise light sensitivity, so ask your pharmacist if you are unsure. If you are pregnant or have a diagnosed skin or eye condition, speak to a professional first. Our safety page has the full list.

Is it cordless?

Yes. It charges and then runs off its own battery, so there is no cable trailing while you use it.

How long does a charge last?

About one to two hours to charge fully, and roughly three to four sessions from a full charge.

What wavelengths does it use?

Four: red at 630nm, yellow at 590nm, green at 520nm and blue at 470nm. Three further settings combine those rather than adding new wavelengths, which is where the count of seven comes from. Red is the one with the strongest research behind it and the one to build your routine around.

Does it have near infrared?

No. Near infrared, usually around 830nm, sits beyond the visible range and this mask does not include it. Several masks in the $300 to $500 range do. If near infrared is specifically what you are after, buy one of those instead.

Is it FDA cleared?

No. Six Thirty is sold as a cosmetic device for home use. It is not a medical device, it does not hold FDA 510(k) clearance, and nothing we say about it is a claim to treat, cure or prevent any condition. Some more expensive masks do carry clearance. If that matters to you, check for it before buying anything, ours included.

What if I do not get on with it?
